Pundit slams Everton after Hakim Ziyech latest – ‘they have done it so wrong’

Frank McAvennie has claimed Everton have “done it so wrong” by leaving it so late in the transfer window to sack Frank Lampard.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said he would be “very surprised” if Hakim Ziyech joins this month.

According to the Daily Mail (22 January), the Toffees are one of the clubs interested in Ziyech, 29, heading into the final days of the transfer window.

The Merseysiders are said to be more interested in a loan for the Moroccan with a view of making the deal permanent if they stay in the Premier League.

Ziyech’s current Stamford Bridge contract expires in 2025 but has fallen down the pecking order under Graham Potter.

When asked if Ziyech would view Everton as a massive step down, McAvennie told Football Insider:He is not playing much at Chelsea.

It would not be a massive step down if he is not getting a game.

But it goes back to Everton. The chairman is getting pelters off the supporters. I can’t see Everton signing any players in this window. I think they have done it so wrong.

If they wanted to get rid of Frank they should have done it at the start of the window and let a new manager come in and buy players. I just think it sums up Everton’s season.

They are doing everything backwards. I would be very surprised if he joins Everton. I can’t see him getting more wages than what he is at Chelsea.”
