Pundit slams Everton owners after ‘terrible’ development – ‘not good enough’

Everton needed “two or three” deadline day signings to make sure their squad is capable of staying in the Premier League.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ future.

Dyche was announced as the new Everton manager on Monday (30 January) after the club initially held talks with Marcelo Bielsa.

The ex-Burnley man was appointed with just one full day of the January transfer window to make changes to his squad as they bid to avoid relegation.

However, despite a flurry of late bids for various strikers, the Toffees ended up as the only top-flight side to not make a senior signing during the window.

Despite winning against Arsenal in his first game in charge, McManus fears Dyche does not have the squad to survive.

“They put a bid in for every striker under the sun so you know they were trying,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“You just have to wonder why it took them so long to appoint Dyche. Then they had no time to get a new signing in, it’s not good enough.

“The mark of a good manager is getting the best out of the players you already have. We saw that improvement at the weekend.

“The performance against Arsenal was very good but I just think it was terrible to not get a couple of new faces in.

“I thought they needed two or three new players to come in and really boost that squad but no one came.

“All that did was annoy the fans but it seems like they are fully on board after that win over Arsenal. It’s a strange one.

“It’s just one win but the signs are there.
