Pundit slams Ryan Kent as new Rangers details emerge – ‘Celtic should be happy’

Frank McAvennie has slammed Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos for running down their contracts at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker insisted the club needs money and said it’s wrong for the pair to leave for free.

Both Morelos, 26, and Kent, 26, have less than six months left on their Ibrox contracts and are free to negotiate with other clubs in the new year.

On 1 October, this site revelaed that Kent has rejected a new ‘big-money’ contract offer as he sets his sights on a move to the Premier League.

On 10 December, this site also revealed that Morelos has demanded £45,000-a-week in wages if he is to agree a new contract.

New boss Michael Beale worked with both players during his previous spell in Glasgow under manager Steven Gerrard.

As quoted by footballscotland (11 December), Beale, who also worked with Kent at Liverpool, believes the winger wants to be at the club.

The former QPR boss insisted Kent is one of the best players in the league.

During his previous stint at Ibrox, Beale said the winger told him that he didn’t want to leave Rangers until they had won something.

But McAvennie claimed both Kent and Morelos are going to leave for free in the summer.

Him and Kent are going to walk away without giving Rangers any money,” he told Football Insider.

Rangers

Being a Celtic supporter you should be happy about that but I think it is wrong for them to do that because the club has given them so much.

They are letting their contracts run down and will not get the club anything when they really do need money. So it is a shame.
