Pundit slams ‘stupid’ Maguire after ‘huge’ Man United update via Sky

Paul Robinson has slammed Man United captain Harry Maguire for his “stupid” sending off against Watford.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League goalkeeper said the two challenges were “really poor” for a player “as experienced” as the 28-year-old.

Maguire received two yellow cards in the space of seven minutes at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The red card proved decisive as United lost 4-1 in what would be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s final game in charge.

Speaking yesterday ahead of the trip to Villarreal, Maguire told Sky Sports that the players need to take “huge responsibility” for Solskjaer’s sacking.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Maguire’s display at Watford, Robinson said: “Maguire is completely out of sorts at the moment.

“The last thing Man United needed was for their captain to get sent off in the way that he did.

“He is just a player who is not playing well at the moment. He is seriously out of form.

“At club and international level he has proven he is a good player. But he’s miles off the pace currently.

“United are not playing well as a team though. Players do feel pressure and he will be feeling it more than any other as the captain of Manchester United. He has been getting stick left, right and centre.

“It was a stupid sending off. You have to keep your head in situations like that It was really poor from a player as experienced as him.”
