Pundit slams ‘stupid’ SPFL after Rangers news – ‘it just doesn’t make sense’

Rangers should not be made to play their game against Hibernian this weekend as it will disrub=pt their preparations for next week’s game against PSV Eindhoven.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers’ chances of reaching the Champions League group stages.

Rangers drew 2-2 with PSV at Ibrox on Tuesday (16 August) ahead of the second leg which will be played next Tuesday (23 August).

PSV’s weekend game has been postponed by the Dutch footballing authorities to give the side the best chance of going through.

Kenny insists Rangers should have been given the same treatment by the SPFL.

“I’m sure they could have moved the Hibs game,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“The Dutch league knows how important it is for PSV to get into the Champions League. If that means them having a rest on Saturday and not playing so they are all 100% then fair enough.

“It just shows you how stupid the Scottish league can be. Just cancel one game. I’m not being funny, it could have been moved to a Tuesday night or another midweek night.

“Give Rangers the best possible chance. Imagine how big it would be for Scotland to have Rangers and Celtic in the Champions League again.

“It just doesn’t make sense whatsoever. I find it so disappointing.”

Rangers
