Tottenham pundit lambasts two stars after ‘surprise’ – ‘not good enough for Spurs’

Paul Robinson has claimed neither Japhet Tanganga nor Davinson Sanchez are good enough to play for Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one suggested Antonio Conte would sanction both players’ exit next year.

Cristian Romero missed the 2-2 draw with Brentford on Boxing Day after winning the World Cup with Argentina.

Tanganga started in his absence and played 67 minutes before being replaced by Davinson Sanchez.

Robinson was “surprised” by Conte’s decision to bring on Sanchez in the second half.

“Neither of them are good enough to play for Spurs on a regular basis,” he told Football Insider.

“I was surprised when Sanchez replaced Tanganga. It was just a like-for-like swap.

I’m not sure what was gained.

“I prefer Tanganga over Sanchez. Sanchez makes too many errors that lead to goals. Tanganga on the other hand has never really been given a good run of games in the side.

“Saying that, I imagine Conte would sell them both if it meant he could bring another centre-half in. Conte always said it would take three or four windows to get this side to where he wants.

“I don’t think Tanganga or Sanchez are of the level needed. Spurs need to improve their defence if they want to challenge at the very top of the table.”

Tanganga has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract in north London.

Sanchez has just 18 months left on his current deal.
