Pundit slates Todd Boehly after ‘huge’ Chelsea manager news

Alan Hutton has slammed Todd Boehly for getting rid of Graham Potter from Chelsea too soon.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender couldn’t believe Boehly claimed the club were willing to give Potter time in the role just weeks before sacking him.

The 47-year-old was sacked by Chelsea on Sunday (2 April), just a day after their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa and following a poor run that sees them 11th in the Premier League.

Potter was appointed as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement in September but has left the club after just seven months in charge.

Despite a £323million January spend that brought in eight players, Potter was given limited time with the new additions before being relieved of his duties.

Hutton couldn’t believe Potter wasn’t given at least until the end of the season.

You think about when he came in, off the back of Tuchel who is up there with one of the best managers around,” he told Football Insider.

Boehly comes in and starts flinging cash everywhere, bringing in all these players and giving him a huge squad to work with.

It was a big step for Graham Potter as well. He has done an excellent job at Brighton but there is a different sort of pressure when you go in to a top team. You must win silverware, you need to do well in the Champions League.

The money that they are spending, they should be right up there, top four minimum.

I kind of felt sorry for him. Should he have got to the end of the season? Probably. But the way Chelsea work they are not willing to wait. Boehly came out and said they were but obviously they were not because they sacked him.
