Pundit suggests behind-the-scenes ‘issue’ at Arsenal after confirmed Kieran Tierney news

Something is going on” between Mikel Arteta and Kieran Tierney at Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton suggested there could be an issue between the pair which would explain Tierney’s absences last season.

The 26-year-old struggled for game time under Arteta last season with former Man City man Oleksandr Zinchenko favoured at left-back.

Despite injury problems in the past, the Scotland international insisted that wasn’t the reason for his lack of game time last term.

As quoted by footballscotland (26 July), Tierney said that he did not miss a single game as a result of injury in the 2022-23 season.

Talking about his future, the defender said that he hasn’t had any discussions with the manager about where he will be next season.

Arteta insisted that Tierney is in the club’s plans moving forward.

Hutton suggested that there could be a bigger issue behind the scenes.

Something is obviously going on if he is saying himself that and he has been left out for other reasons then that is obviously an issue between himself and the manager,” he told Football Insider.

I think he is an unbelievably talented footballer and it is a real shame that he has gone down there and it has not quite worked out.

I always thought he had his injury problems and that was why he was left out. I think he has still got a lot to offer, there is a fantastic footballer there.”
