Pundit suggests Celtic spending spree incoming after Edouard confession

Kevin Campbell has suggested Celtic are desperate to sell Odsonne Edouard to fund a spending spree before the transfer window closes.

The former Arsenal, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Hoops need to “free up funds” to reinvest in the squad.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Wednesday (August 11th), Postecoglou admitted that Celtic chiefs are concerned about losing Edouard on a free when his contract runs out next summer.

The Australian confessed that he has “left outgoings to other people”.

As quoted by the Daily Record, he insisted the Hoops are working “awfully hard” on bringing in new players.

Campbell suggested Edouard’s departure is key to Postecoglou bringing in further signings.

“I think the writing is on the wall for Edouard at Celtic,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“There has to be a turnover of players and the new boss Postecoglou is going to want to get his own guys in.

“Edouard is probably one of the players who Celtic see as tradeable in order to free up funds for further signings.”

Celtic have been active in the transfer market following Postecoglou’s arrival, adding seven first-team signings.

As revealed by Football Insider (August 5th), Premier League club Brighton have held talks about signing the 23-year-old.

It is understood Celtic may have to accept less than £20million due to his contract situation.

Edouard would be Celtic’s second big-money departure this summer.

Kristoffer Ajer moved to Premier League new boys Brentford for £13.5million in July.

Edouard has hit 84 goals in 174 games since moving to Celtic on an initial loan deal in 2017.

In other news, a bid has been accepted for Rangers and Celtic target Thomas Henry.
