Pundit suggests Gerrard dazzled by Rangers starlet McCrorie after ‘sink or swim’ week
Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers have a star in the making in young goalkeeper Robby McCrorie after a “sink or swim” week.
The former Ger, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Steven Gerrard will be “very impressed” by the 23-year-old’s displays after being thrown into the starting XI.
McCrorie started two games in four days for Rangers, keeping clean sheets both in the Europa League playoff against Alashkert and the Old Firm victory over Celtic.
The 23-year-old has been almost perpetually loaned out by the Ibrox club since signing professional terms.
McCrorie has had spells with Livingston, Queen of the South, Greenock Morton and Berwick Rangers since signing professional terms at Rangers.
However, Hutton suggested his performances may have earned him a permanent place among the senior squad.
“Gerrard will be very impressed with him,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“I think it was a little bit sink or swim for him, it was just left up to him with the two other experienced goalkeepers missing.
“He’s been out on loan, he’s had that experience and that’s led to his first Rangers game.
“The Old Firm game is different to anything else, but he’s taken it all in his stride and I thought it was an excellent performance.
“He stepped up and made some decent saves, so overall he must be very happy with his performance.
“Gerrard, Gary McAllister and those guys must be seeing what kind of goalkeeper that he’s capable of being in the future.

“They know that he can step up and be trusted. I’m really happy for him.
“To be able to go out in those situations and make big saves is bound to make him a better goalkeeper.
