Pundit suggests Leeds fans ‘furious’ at injury update and can’t believe what staff are doing at Thorp Arch

Leeds United must sign a new striker in January after Patrick Bamford picked up a fresh knock.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Leeds’ “bizarre” injury problems as he criticised staff at their Thorp Arch headquarters.

Bamford, 28, only returned to the first team on Sunday (5 December) after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

He scored a last-gasp equaliser against Brentford but Leeds revealed in a statement on Thursday (8 December) he has another hamstring issue.

Leeds also have Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper, Rodrigo and Robin Koch sidelined through injury.

McAvennie insists Leeds fans must be furious with the continual injuries and for not signing a new striker in the summer.

“They have to sign a striker in January, they just have to,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Why didn’t they sign one in the summer? I’m sick of talking about this to be honest. The whole thing is bizarre.

“Oh my God, Leeds fans must be furious. They can’t keep any of their players fit and this has been a problem for years.

“Leeds need a proper squad, everyone has been saying this for years. Then it’s a surprise when they struggle because their best players are missing.

“This is a Premier League team with Premier League facilities and they can’t keep their players fit.

“What are the staff doing at that training ground?

“People praise the style they play with and the intensity but clearly, it’s causing injuries.

“You don’t see this anywhere else. If they don’t sign a striker in January then, my god, I don’t know what to say.”
