Pundit suggests new Tottenham ‘concern’ after Antonio Conte fails ‘big test’ – ‘you’ve got to say no’
Noel Whelan has claimed Tottenham boss Antonio Conte will be “concerned” about his side’s inability to win games against other top-six sides.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested results this term have shown that Spurs may not have “enough in the locker” to challenge for a top-four finish.
Tottenham fell to a 2-0 defeat against fifth-place Man United on Wednesday (19 October) thanks to goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes.
That result means Conte’s side have now picked up just one point from a possible nine in matches against the Red Devils, Arsenal, and Chelsea this term.
And despite finishing fourth last season, Tottenham picked up 11 points from a possible 30 in games against other top-six sides.
Whelan claimed this Spurs side have “failed a big test” despite adding a number of players in the summer window.
When asked if Conte will be worried about his sides’ record in big games, he told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Yes.
“They’re still in a healthy position, but you always test yourself against the best. They’ve played three of the top sides now and failed to win in all three games.
“It will be a concern, because that’s how you gauge what sort of squad you’ve got and how far you’ve come.
“They’ll have been expecting to compete with these top sides. But now the question is – have they got enough in the locker to beat those sides? Right now, you’ve got to say no.

“They’ve failed in these big tests, even though they came back against Chelsea.
“These big games can mean the difference from finishing in second or third, all the way down to sixth place.”
In other news, Tottenham fans may turn on Antonio Conte after what pundit has seen – “battered”.
