Pundit suggests ‘panic’ from West Ham owners after source’s David Moyes update

David Moyes’ job is safe as long as West Ham stay out of the relegation zone.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the manager’s future.

Sources told Football Insider on 6 December that there is tension between Moyes and David Sullivan over transfers and that has led to new question marks internally over the manager’s job.

After back-to-back seasons finishing in the European places, the Irons have struggled this term and finished the first part of the season down in 16th place, just a point above the relegation zone.

McManus insists Moyes’ job is safe for now.

“I think Moyes is safe as long as they stay out of the relegation zone,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“It is so tight down there at the moment, two wins and they are back into the top half. I do think owners panic when teams drop into that bottom three.

“So I think there is nothing to worry about until that happens, if it ever does. West Ham need to appreciate that this season is going to be poor compared to the last couple.

“That’s fine, it happens. I don’t think they can get Europe this season. There are so many strong teams up there and they just haven’t started well enough.

“But you have to remember where they were when Moyes took over. They were going to be relegated and two years later Moyes had them playing in a European semi-final.

“They were very close to getting to a major final. You would like to think he has some money in the bank there but we know what owners are like.

“You worry for him if they do drop into the bottom three.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has tipped an “auction” for West Ham as the “deal of the century” is cited.
