Pundit suggests the real reason for Jack Wilshere’s Arsenal deal
Alan Hutton has suggested young Arsenal players will want to speak to and learn from Jack Wilshere.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Wilshere’s appointment as the Gunners’ under-18s coach is a “good move”.
On Monday (11 July) the club confirmed that the 30-year-old will be the new under-18s head coach.
The ex-Arsenal midfielder made 197 appearances for the London club throughout his ten years at the Emirates.
Wilshere is a former academy graduate of the Gunners.
When asked by Football Insider if it is important to have ex-players in coaching roles, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think you need players like that within the team.
“He’s Arsenal through and through, he knows what it’s like to come through and burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old kid, all the pressures that come with it.
“He’s been through a lot, he’s only 30, he’s just retired but within that space of time he has been through a lot of ups and a lot of downs. I think he can pass that knowledge on to the next generation and that’s why he’s been brought into the side.
“Of course one day he probably wants to go on and be a manager but he’s cutting his teeth in the right way. He’s going back to somewhere where it’s familiar.
“He can pass on that knowledge so I think it’s a really good move for him and for the youngsters coming through.

“Can you imagine being a young, 17/18-year-old, knowing that he’s going to come in and be one of the managers. That’s a guy you want to go and speak to, you want to learn from him.
“He’s had a lot of ups and downs and he can help you through a lot of situations. So I think that’s a good move.“
