Pundit suggests the real reason Jordan Pickford could quit Everton – ‘it’s rumbling’
Noel Whelan has claimed it is the “perfect” time for Jordan Pickford to leave Everton after cementing his world-class status at the World Cup in Qatar.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old should join Tottenham amid “big question marks” over the future of Hugo Lloris.
90min reported last month (15 November) that Everton are wary of interest in Pickford from Spurs and Chelsea – and are sounding out potential goalkeeper targets ahead of the January window.
The ex-Sunderland star has been in inspired form for England in Qatar – keeping three clean sheets in four games so far.
The 2022 finals are Pickford’s third major tournament for the Three Lions – after also impressing at the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020.
However, the shot-stopper once again finds himself in a relegation battle at Goodison Park – with the Merseysiders sitting 17th in the table after 15 games.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s been at Everton a long time, he’s been very loyal.
“That has come with some turmoil too, and some debates about whether he is good enough.
“He’s made some horrific mistakes, yes – but he’s a fantastic goalkeeper, and he’s England’s number one.
“It doesn’t surprise me to see this interest. Tottenham have got big question marks about Lloris and his future – so I think it would make the most sense to go there.

“It’s been rumbling on for a while.
“In my opinion, this World Cup has cemented his place as one of the top keepers and so it makes perfect sense that this is the time to move.”
