Pundit suggests the real reason Man City agreed Erling Haaland deal – ‘he will go…’, says expert
Frank McAvennie has suggested Man City bought Erling Haaland for the wrong reasons.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said it seems like Pep Guardiola’s side bought Haaland so they wouldn’t have to come up against him and not because they actually wanted him.
As quoted by Sky Sports (6 February), former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher questioned whether the 22-year-old joined the wrong club in City as their style doesn’t play to his strengths.

The Norway international joined Man City in the summer from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £51million.
Haaland has already scored 31 goals across all competitions this season and provided three assists, including 25 Premier League goals.
But McAvennie said it is becoming apparent that the striker doesn’t fit Guardiola’s style.
“It is as if they just wanted to buy the best striker in the world because they did not want to have to come up against him,” he told Football Insider.
“Pep does not know how to use him, it is not his kind of football. You can see he is frustrated because he is coming short and they are not giving the ball to him.

“I don’t know when was the last time I saw Silva pass the ball to him. This big bulldozer just wants to go and knock everyone out the way. Just put the ball into an area and he will go and win it.
“He is not getting the right service and has scored 25 goals so just imagine what he could do if he was.”
