Pundit suggests when Ange Postecoglou could agree ‘huge’ deal as Celtic exit quotes emerge

Noel Whelan has claimed the World Cup break is the “right time” to hold “in-depth talks” regarding the future of Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 57-year-old’s full focus will be on the Scottish Premiership until the 12 November cut-off.

This site revealed earlier this month (7 October) that Celtic have opened talks with Postecoglou over a “huge” new deal with a release clause amid interest from Brighton during their manager search in September.

The Australian, who lifted the league title and the Scottish League Cup in his first season at Parkhead, is currently tied to a 12-month rolling contract.

Speaking to Fox Sports (24 October), Postecoglou was again forced to shut down speculation about him “fielding calls” from English Premier League sides.

He claimed he is “focused” on Celtic despite “outside noise” and suggested the attention from English sides was testament to his success with the Hoops.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think managers do things different ways.

“Marcelo Bielsa never used to sign a contract until the end of the season, until he felt he deserved it.

“He will sign a contract if he feels it’s right. He’s been very successful in a short space of time.

“Right now, he’ll be concentrating on winning trophies domestically and getting back to the Champions League next season.

“He’s got a lot on his mind up until the World Cup. During that break, we could see more in-depth talks taking place and maybe an agreement.

“I think that time is the right time to discuss contracts.”
