Pundit ‘sure’ Tyrone Mings set for Aston Villa recall after development
Tyrone Mings will be recalled to the Aston Villa starting XI in the near future.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s future.
Tyrone Mings was benched for new signing Diego Carlos on Saturday (6 August) as Aston Villa suffered an opening day defeat against Bournemouth.
The defender was stripped of the captaincy by Gerrard last month, with John McGinn assuming the role.
As quoted by the BBC after Saturday’s (6 August) loss, the former Rangers boss insisted “when Tyrone is back at his best and looks me in the eye and shows that he’s ready to play, he’ll get opportunities.”
Kenny expects Mings will be recalled and claims it is up to him to show Gerrard that he has a future during training.
When asked to place himself in MIngs’ shoes, Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “I would like to think we would have had a conversation about the captaincy.
“As a pro, we don’t know what has gone on. We don’t know what kind of pre-season he had or what has gone on behind closed doors.
“He might have been turning up late to training or not turning up at all, there could be many factors to it.
“As a player, you have to get your head down. If the manager tells you that you need to show him, then get on that training ground and do it.

“I’m sure at some point he will be needed, that door will open.
“He will be disappointed right now but he is a professional, he has to get on with it.”
