Pundit ‘surprised’ Antoine Griezmann could sign for Man United

Alan Hutton would be “very surprised” if Antoine Griezmann were to quit Atletico Madrid for Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender insisted United would not be the right fit for Griezmann but he has learned to “never say never” in football.

According to French outlet MediaFoot (18 December), United are interested in the 31-year-old after his impressive World Cup.

The Red Devils are said to view him as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo after his Old Trafford contract was terminated.

The forward’s loan at Atletico expires in the summer at which point he will join on a permanent deal until 2026.

Hutton insisted it is not the right time for the France international to quit the Spanish giants.

I think I would be surprised especially after everything that happened at Barcelona,” he told Football Insider.

He left and when he came back to Atletico, it seems like that is his home. He could not play because they owed payments and everything that went on.

Man United

So to go through that whole situation and get back somewhere that you feel comfortable, a manager that knows you, to then go to a team that are in a rebuild, it is very difficult to settle in.

Is he going to play every week? What type of player is he being viewed as? A midfielder or a forward thinking player. I would never say never but I would be surprised.
