Pundit ‘surprised’ by Dominic Calvert-Lewin after source’s Arsenal reveal
Alan Hutton “would be surprised” if Arsenal were to complete a deal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said that Calvert-Lewin’s injury struggles this season are “a real shame” but insisted his numbers haven’t been good enough.
Last week (2 April), sources told this site that the Gunners are monitoring the 26-year-old’s availability ahead of the summer window.
Mikel Arteta’s side are keen to bring in a new striker this summer and are keeping tabs on whether they can secure a cut-price deal for Calvert-Lewin if Everton are relegated this season.
The Gunners boss is a big fan of the forward and is ready to launch a surprise move despite his injury issues.
But Hutton suggested Calvert-Lewin’s arrival at the Emirates is unlikely.
“I would be surprised if that happened,” he told Football Insider.
“His numbers this season have not been great. It has been a real shame for him because he does offer a lot but the injuries have really caught up with him this season.
“Where does he fit in to that Arsenal team? They have got [Eddie] Nketiah, [Gabriel] Jesus, [Bukayo] Saka, [Gabriel] Martinelli, where does he fit in there? I would be surprised if that happened.“
Calvert-Lewin has massively struggled with injuries this season and has only managed 12 appearances for the Goodison Park side this season.
In those outings he has only found the back of the net once in 735 Premier League minutes.

The striker hasn’t featured for the Toffees since February when he picked up a hamstring injury and his return date remains unclear.
Last season the former England international missed 18 league matches as a result of various problems and didn’t feature until October of the 2022-23 season.
