Pundit verdict on Everton accepting Anthony Gordon bid as talks underway
Everton would be welcoming relegation with open arms if they sell Anthony Gordon this summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Gordon is “unsellable” and Frank Lampard must build around him.
Football Insider first revealed earlier this month (6 July) that Newcastle United had submitted a £35million bid for the 21-year-old.
The Toffees knocked back that approach for the highly-rated winger who has also been a target for Tottenham this summer.
Sources told Football Insider on Saturday (16 July) that the club have opened talks with Gordon over a new contract that would hand him a “huge” pay rise.
His current terms expire in the summer of 2025.
He has been handed the number 10 shirt by Everton and Lampard told club media last week (13 July) that he is “going nowhere” and he will build around him.
“He’s not going anywhere,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“You sold Richarlison for £60million, if you sell Gordon you might as well say you’re going down and you don’t mind going to the Championship.
“Some players are unsellable to a club and with someone like Gordon, after such a great season, he’s going to be a player they are going to look at and lean on next season.”

Gordon scored four times and provided three assists in 40 appearances across all competitions in 2021-22 as Everton narrowly avoided relegation.
The England Under-21 international enjoyed a breakthrough campaign after spending the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Preston North End where he had a limited impact.
