Pundit verdict on Everton sacking Sean Dyche this summer – ‘it’s a worry’

Alan Hutton has insisted the lack of transfer activity this month is a worry for new Everton boss Sean Dyche.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender insisted Dyche is not a short-term fix to prevent the Toffees from being relegated.

On Monday (30 January), Dyche was announced as the new manager at Goodison Park after they sacked Frank Lampard.

The new boss wanted to add two attacking signings to his squad this month but they ended the window as the only top-flight club that did not sign make any new signings.

As relayed by the Guardian (31 January), this prompted angry fans to gather and protest outside the training ground at the board’s mismanagement of the club.

When asked if Dyche is just a short-term fix for the Merseyside club, Hutton told Football Insider:I do not think he will see it that way.

I think he will see that he can go in and turn things around. Yes they are at the bottom but it is very tight.

He will feel that he has got the know-how to get them out of that and he will want to progress from there. I do not see it being a short-term fix.

They did not bring anyone in which is a worry. Losing [Anthony] Gordon as well is not ideal but he will feel that he has got enough in that dressing room that he can mould a team that is hard to beat. But I do not see it as a short-term fix.”
