Pundit worried Connor Goldson could ‘ruin his career’ at Rangers after confirmed news

Frank McAvennie has claimed Connor Goldson could “ruin his career” at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said it could be a “big mistake” to play Goldson if he is not ready after his injury.

The 30-year-old picked up a thigh injury in the Light Blues’ 7-1 hammering to Liverpool on 12 October.

The 3-2 win over Aberdeen on Tuesday (20 December), was the centre-back’s first start since the injury.

18-year-old Leon King was filling in for the Ibrox veteran whilst he was sidelined.

Speaking to Rangers TV after the game, Goldson said it is not the best his side have played but is hopeful the win will build the confidence in the squad.

When asked if the Gers have been forced to rush Goldson back, McAvennie told Football Insider:If they have it could be a big, big, mistake if he gets injured again.

I do not get it. If he makes a mistake then it could ruin his career. It could send him backwards. The fans will not forgive him if he is not right and he comes back and plays.

If he is not doing the team any good then he should not be there. It is a strange one. I feel for Goldson because you could see the hole that was left when he was out.

Rangers

Goldson could be called back into action for his second appearance inside a week against Ross County on Friday (22 December).

The Bears are currently nine points behind Glasgow rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
