Pundit ‘worried’ for Leeds United after source’s manager hunt update – ‘not looking good’

Leeds United must hire a new manager quickly or risk being left behind by their relegation rivals.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Whites’ attempts to replace Jesse Marsch.

On Monday (6 February) Leeds sacked Marsch with the club only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Sources told this site on Wednesday (8 February) that Baggies boss Carlos Corberan pulled out of the running to be the new Leeds United manager after only being offered an 18-month contract.

The Spaniard spoke to Whites’ chiefs but eventually decided to pen a new deal at West Brom.

Leeds United are now closing in on a new boss after holding interviews this week – with Rayo Vallecano manager Andoni Iraola and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot among the main contenders.

McManus is not enthused by any of the names linked with the job so far.

“I am seeing names of people who have no Premier League experience,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“I’m not going to sit here and tell you Leeds should hire one of the dinosaurs because they have the experience of getting out of the relegation zone.

“But to hire someone from Spain who had never managed over here before, that just seems like a risk to me. More of a risk than keeping Marsch.

“Last time they sacked the manager, Bielsa, Marsch came straight in, he was ready to go. That hasn’t happened this time so you wonder if they have failed to get their number one target.

“Either way, they need to hire someone quickly because time is running out but it’s not looking good on that front.

If they wait for three weeks then that’s three games the new manager could have been in for.

“I just worry for Leeds if this hunt goes on for a long time and they end up with someone they don’t really want.”
