Pundit ‘wowed’ by what he has seen from Ben Doak – ‘Liverpool have a special player’

Ben Doak could take on a bigger role in the senior Liverpool side during the second half of the season.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the youngster’s prospects.

Doak, 17, was handed his Premier League debut at Villa Park on Boxing Day after impressing for the Reds’ various youth sides this season.

He was also afforded 22 minutes off the bench during Liverpool’s dismal 3-0 loss to Brighton last weekend (14 January) and 15 minutes in the club’s FA Cup replay against Wolves (17 January).

When asked if Doak could stay at Liverpool and be a useful option for Jurgen Klopp during the second half of the season, McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild, “Yeah, I honestly think so.

“I saw him come on against Wolves in the FA Cup and I thought he looked really good. He linked up well with Salah, they showed a good understanding between each other.

“For that young lad to be mixing it with the likes of Salah, at his age, wow. It’s fantastic and I have seen some Liverpool fans on social media raving about his performances.

“He’s come on a couple of times and he really does look the part, Liverpool have a special player. He’s so direct and that’s what the fans love. It’s unusual for a young player to play like that, no fear.

“He’s rapid as well. If you are a Liverpool fan you want to see more of him. Maybe give him half an hour in some of the upcoming league games.

“I think he has earned that bigger role.”
