Radrizzani commits to £100m Leeds investment
By Harry Sykes
Leeds United supremo Andrea Radrizzani has revealed he has committed to spending £100million at the club.
Radrizzani, who took full control of the Championship giants on 25 May, made the extraordinary revelation about his financial outlay during an interview with BBC Sport ahead of the new season.
The Italian businessman bought a half-share in Leeds in January before taking sole control following ex-owner Massimo Cellino’s exit at the end of last season.
Radrizzani has won over majority of the United fanbase following a series of controversial owners who have failed to invest in either the infrastructure and facilities of the club or the team.
The tycoon negotiated a deal for Leeds to buy back Elland Road for the first time in 13 years in a deal estimated at costing nearly £20million.
He has also sanctioned a transfer splurge in which nine senior signings and 12 Under-23s players have joined the club this summer.
“I’m already committed to an investment in the region of £100million,” Radrizzani said in an interview with BBC Sport. “I’m here for good and want to bring this club back to where they deserve.”
“I knew what I was going to invest in the club. I was happy to have my time beside Cellino to have a look and then be ready for the beginning of the season.
“I think it was smart to invest in January and have the opportunity to establish relationships and build my team.
“In May when I took over I could kick off and be in a position after two months where activities are already done.”
Radrizzani revealed that he is confident his investment will prove to be a wise one given the history and prestige of Leeds.
In other Leeds United news, a left-back has headed to Elland Road as he aims to secure a permanent transfer from top-flight club.
