Van der Vaart sends Twitter message to Tottenham ahead of Liverpool clash
By Harvey Byrne
Tottenham fan favourite Rafael van der Vaart wished his former side luck for Saturday ahead of their clash with Liverpool at Anfield.
The north London club are preparing for an important away trip which will see them take on the Reds in Merseyside.
One player who has good experiences from the two sides meeting is ex-Spurs star Van Der Vaart, who scored a fantastic goal in a 2-0 victory in 2011.
The official Tottenham Twitter account paid homage to the strike before the weekend encounter, bringing a supportive response from Van Der Vaart on the social media site.
“I remember this one! Good luck on Saturday,” wrote Van Der Vaart alongside the “come on you Spurs” hashtag.
Tottenham have not won at Anfield since the goals from Van Der Vaart and former star Luka Modric in 2011.
However, given the two sides current form in the league Mauricio Pochettino’s team will be going into the clash as the favourites.
Spurs are unbeaten in their last 11 fixtures in all competitions, picking up an impressive nine victories, including an impressive 2-0 win over league leaders Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have won just one of their last 10 outings all all competitions which came against League Two side Plymouth in an FA Cup replay.
