Raheem Sterling could be set for shock Chelsea reprieve after what Liam Rosenior has just said
Raheem Sterling’s future at Chelsea could be about to take a twist that nobody saw coming.
The former England international has been part of the ‘bomb squad’ at Stamford Bridge since Enzo Maresca’s appointment as manager in 2024, and hasn’t played a single minute of Premier League football this term.
Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider on Tuesday that Fulham are the most likely suitors for Sterling in January, while the likes of Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle have all been linked with a move of late.
However, Liam Rosenior could be about to leave all of those clubs disappointed, as he plans a move that has the potential to completely resurrect the winger’s career.

Liam Rosenior praises ‘outstanding’ Raheem Sterling as talks planned
Sterling’s wages at Chelsea are causing problems when it comes to getting him off the books, and former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson recently told Football Insider that he was “surprised” they didn’t offer the 31-year-old a free transfer to leave in the summer.
The former England international is understood to be earning around £325,000 on his current deal in West London, which still has 18 months left to run at present.
A January exit has seemed like an inevitability for the wideman for several months, but that may no longer be the case, as Rosenior eyes the possibility of a huge shake-up.
The new Chelsea boss is set to hold both discussions with both Sterling and Axel Disasi regarding their futures, according to The Guardian.
Rosenior has already heaped praise on the former, suggesting that he has had an “outstanding” career, and also insisting that he has “huge respect” for both him and Disasi.

While the exact chances of a reprieve for Sterling will only become clear after these discussions have taken place, Rosenior has certainly spoken like a manager who could be about to hand out a second chance.
How many days is it since Raheem Sterling’s last appearance for Chelsea?
Sterling’s situation at Chelsea has not changed for several months, but he will surely be feeling that Rosenior’s arrival could potentially be about to hand him a crucial lifeline.
The attacker spent last season on loan at Arsenal, but still managed just seven Premier League starts for Mikel Arteta’s men.
His last appearance for Chelsea came way back in May 2024, when he played 63 minutes in the Blues’ 2-1 win over Bournemouth on the final day of the season.
That appearance is now over 600 days ago, but Rosenior could yet reset that clock in the coming weeks.
The former Hull City boss will want to get a look at every player that he has at his disposal, and if Sterling can impress with his mentality and performances on the training pitch, then that reprieve may no longer be too far-fetched.
