Raheem Sterling has fired ‘shot’ at Man City after source’s reveal – Mills

Raheem Sterling has fired a “shot across the bows” at Man City over his new contract, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-City and England full-back suggested Sterling wants the club to offer him a bumper new deal.

A recruitment source told Football Insider the 27-year-old’s current plan is to wait for his contract to expire at the end of next season.

It is understood preliminary talks have taken place over a new deal but Sterling would have no issue staying at the Etihad as he enters the final 12 months of his existing agreement.

“Things change in football so much so quickly,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“We saw 18 months ago that Barcelona were one of the greatest clubs in the world then they start to fall apart. Real Madrid aren’t quite what they were but getting back up now.

“It’s Ok for Sterling to say that now and it might be a little bit of a shot across the bows. He’s just saying ‘My contract’s running down, if you don’t give me a really good new one then I’ll run it down’. It’s just playing the game a little bit.

“There was talk at the start of the season whether he was going to play enough and I said he would. He’s played 40 games and is integral to the way Man City play.

“With England as well he’s got great experience and has become a great leader.

“It’s that ‘I need a new contract time’.”

Sterling has 21 goal involvements in his appearances across all competitions this season.

He has won every domestic trophy with the club since his move from Liverpool in July 2015 and will be hoping to add the Champions League to his collection this season.

In other news, Man City may be on the brink of signing the next Sergio Aguero after a Sky update.
