Raheem Sterling latest: Major update on Aston Villa swoop – sources
Raheem Sterling is on the radar at Aston Villa ahead of the transfer deadline on Friday (30 August), sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed a Saudi Pro League move could become a possibility for the 29-year-old if he fails to secure a new home in England.
It is believed Sterling is on the shortlist at Aston Villa but they are currently behind Man United and Arsenal in the race for his signature.
Villa will play Champions League football this term and will be hoping to challenge once again for a top-four berth under Unai Emery.
Sterling on Aston Villa radar as clubs battle to land Chelsea star
Sources say Chelsea would need to subsidise Sterling’s “huge” wage if a move to the Midlands giants is to be possible before the 11pm deadline.
Enzo Maresca has been clear that the winger will not feature in any capacity for the Blues this season if he doesn’t move away from Stamford Bridge.
Sterling is training way from the first team at Cobham alongside several other high-profile names.

The England international has three years left to run on his lucrative Chelsea deal.
His shock exile comes despite the winger notching 10 goals and eight assists in 43 club appearances across all competitions last term, starting in 31 of those outings.
