Raheem Sterling tipped to quit Man City for new club after source’s talks reveal – pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Raheem Sterling to snub a new Man City contract to join a foreign club amid talks over his future.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 27-year-old may want a new challenge after seven years at the Etihad Stadium.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider (20 April) Sterling is prepared to run down his contract and leave City on a free in 2023.

Preliminary talks have taken place over a new deal with the reigning Premier League champions but an agreement is not close.

The source explained Sterling is in no rush to commit but is happy to remain with City past this summer.

Agbonlahor suggested the England winger may have his sights set on joining an overseas side.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Connor Whitley: “We don’t know what the club are looking for in the future. You don’t know what Sterling’s looking for.

“He might want to try a different league, that’s something I reckon he’d like to do.

“If the club think he’s enjoying his football, they’ll probably try and offer him a new contract.

“But he’s probably thinking to himself: ‘I want certain terms, otherwise I won’t sign.'”

Sterling signed his current terms back in 2018.

He has not been a nailed-on first choice under Pep Guardiola this season.

Sterling has started 20 Premier League games this term, with 10 goals and four assists under his belt.

He has also scored three times in 10 Champions League games.
