Raheem Sterling’s ‘most likely’ destination revealed in ‘cut-price deal’

Fulham may be the only Premier League club for Raheem Sterling if the forward wants to remain in the Premier League.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, as Sterling remains frozen out at Chelsea.

Sterling would be forced to reduce his wages if he remains in the Premier League, with many clubs not willing to meet what he earns at Chelsea.

Fulham pursued a move for Sterling in the summer transfer window, with his wages a stumbling block in the 31-year-old completing a transfer to Craven Cottage.

Raheem Sterling may have to ‘move overseas’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – sees a scenario where Sterling remains at Chelsea.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes wages will be the main factor in Sterling completing any deal.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t see Raheem going anywhere. Fulham had considered it, and there could be some cut-price deal that they’re waiting for. I think Fulham’s the most likely.

“I don’t see him going to Newcastle. And I just, I just don’t see Raheem getting a position again this season, I’m afraid. I just don’t know. I mean, his agent was trying to place us and make us all believe that he was training so hard, and he’s ready to come back. He’s had no game time.

“And I think it may be the fact that Raheem is either going to have to move overseas and prove himself. But I don’t see him getting another Premier League club this season unless he really, really breaks down his wages, just to get back in the game.

“Now, whether that burning desire is there, I doubt it very much. He’s already done a lot in the game, so I just don’t see him getting that placement yet unless he’s prepared to drop even further than it’s rumoured he will do, and that’s a big decision financially for him.”

Chelsea faced with transfer issue over duo

Liam Rosenior’s appointment as Chelsea manager does not appear to have changed the scenario currently facing Sterling.

The Blues still want to get Sterling off the wage bill, with the club faced with a loss over a player they signed for £50million in 2022.

The London side face the same issue with Mykhailo Mudryk, who is currently suspended and has not played for club or country since November 2024.
