Ralf Rangnick decision slammed amid ‘massive’ Man United claim – pundit

Man United “made a rod for their own back” by appointing Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Red Devils players lack the “desire” to get results under the 63-year-old German.

Man United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over 10-man Brighton last night (15 February), just days after ESPN reported discontent in the camp about Rangnick’s training methods (11 February).

Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast on Sunday (13 February), former Old Trafford favourite Gary Neville branded the leaks “disgusting” and claimed to know where they originated.

Campbell insisted the decision to hand the Rangnick a short-term contract was “never going to work”.

“If these rumours about training are correct, then there are massive problems at Man United,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“When you look at the squad and the talent they have, they should be doing a lot better than they are.

“Ralf Rangnick has come in and tried to organise them, which is one thing. But the players just don’t seem to have the desire to go out there on the pitch and get results.

“The fact of the matter is, he’s only in there for six months. That was never going to work, as far as I’m concerned.

“They’ve made a rod for their own back with that decision. They need a real sort out, but that won’t come until the summer – by then it will be too late.

Man United sit fourth in the Premier League.

Rangnick is contracted until the end of the season, at which point he will take a consultancy role at Old Trafford.
