Rangers shake hands on deal with mid-table club to sign international - Sky Sports

Rangers have shook hands on a deal to sign Norwich City defender Russell Martin on loan until the end of the season, according to a report.
Sky Sports Scotland claimed on their official Twitter account on Monday that the two sides have reached a deal for the 32-year-old Scotland international to head north as manager Graeme Murty revamps the squad he inherited from Pedro Caixinha.

Express reporter Bruce Archer had previously reported Martin was on his way for a medical on Monday, but made no mention on whether a fee had been agreed or not.
The Gers have embarked on a sizeable revamp of the squad this month with Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy signed on loan until the end of the season while Andy Halliday and Michael O’Halloran have returned to the club after being sent on loan by Caixinha.
Martin has made 14 appearances for the Canaries this season but has largely been on the fringes of the first-team and a move to Ibrox would suit all parties.
Norwich are mid-table in the Championship at the moment, with them sitting 13th in the standings.
The Scotland international will face competition for a starting place from the likes of Danny Wilson, Bruno Alves, Ross McCrorie and Fabio Cardosoo.
Football Insider verdict
The signing of Martin makes a lot of sense for Rangers with at least one of Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso edged closer to the exit door with the 32-year-old’s arrival. Martin being able to slot in at right-back or in central defence means Murty has a much better alternative to James Tavernier than Lee Hodson if necessary. Martin will bring more experience to the Gers defence – particularly if Alves is moved on – in what is a fairly inexperienced defence. Another good bit of business by Murty and director of football Mark Allen as they improve the Gers squad.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to announce this done deal within hours after a medical is scheduled.
