Rangers to appoint current PL senior man – reliable journalist
By Harvey Byrne
Rangers are to appoint current Manchester City director of academy Mark Allen as their director of football, according to a reliable journalist.
The Ibrox giants have been linked to a list of names for the position following the departure of Mark Warburton and his team in February.
Southampton’s Ross Wilson and Tottenham’s Paul Mitchell were two of the main names speculated originally, but it would seem Rangers have now turned their attentions to Allen.
Matt Law, a football news correspondent for the Daily Telegraph reported the news via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.
Allen has been a part of the Manchester club since 2009 and has worked with the youngsters of the cash-rich team across the eight years.
It hasn’t been a great time for the Manchester City academy in terms of bringing through young players.
However, he has overseen the transformation of the City academy with Sheikh Mansour pumping a lot of money into it in an effort to help more players make their breakthrough.
Allen’s experience will also be of huge help to Rangers and manager Pedro Caixinha and this has the potential to be a very smart appointment from the Ibrox giants.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have made an approach for this 23-year-old attacker.
