Noel Whelan has claimed Rangers are “bracing themselves” for the departure of Alfredo Morelos this summer after Rhian Brewster and Lyle Taylor emerged as top targets.
The former Leeds United and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested the Colombian may have already orchestrated his exit from Ibrox.
The 23-year-old’s future has been the subject of renewed speculation after another impressive campaign in Glasgow which wielded 29 goals and 10 assists in 46 appearances.
However, disciplinary issues have again shadowed a prolific campaign with the striker dropped for returning late from a trip to his native Colombia at the end of February.
Football Insider revealed on 1 June that the Scottish Premiership runners up had shortlisted Rhian Brewster this summer and Charlton rebel Lyle Taylor remains a target.
When asked by Football Insider if the Gers’ interest in both forward’s implies Morelos is on his way out of Ibrox, Whelan said: “Rangers are bracing themselves for Morelos leaving.
“Maybe there is something in the background that we do not know about.
“Teams will want him despite his character because he is a goalscorer.
“I think they are prepping themselves for a bid that may come in for Morelos.
“Steven Gerrard is moving very swiftly to cover that base and get a good, quality striker into the club.”
Andy Halliday, who was released by the Gers this month, told the Scottish Sun: “I see his future at Ibrox and I hope Rangers keep a hold of him because I’m sure he will have plenty of suitors as well.”
