Rangers backed to agree ‘£20m’ James Tavernier deal after source’s reveal – pundit

Rangers won’t turn down an offer for captain James Tavernier this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie said the Gers could get £20million from a Saudi side for the defender.

The 31-year-old still has three years remaining on his Ibrox contract and has been an important part of the squad over the years.

Former boss Steven Gerrard was appointed manager of Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq earlier this month (3 July).

Football Insider revealed (5 July), that Gerrard is keen on bringing Tavernier to his new team.

The defender would follow in the footsteps of Celtic winger Jota who made the switch to Saudi for £25m.

McAvennie insisted the Gers won’t turn down big money bids for their captain.

If they make an offer he will go,” he told Football Insider.

The money out there is too good they cannot say no.

I know he is the captain but if the money comes in and they are offering the same as what they offered for Jota, there is not a chance he will say no.

He has been there for years and years but if he gets the chance to go there, I do not think many Rangers supporters will be upset by it.

I do not want anyone to leave Scottish football but we just cannot afford to keep them and we can’t afford to fight with money like that.

Rangers

It is the only way Rangers are going to get big money for somebody is by going to Saudi because there are not many teams coming in for him from down south.

If they ask for £20m they will get it. It is a win for Rangers and a win for Tavernier if it happens.”
