Rangers backed to agree double Sunderland swoop as ‘busy’ window intensifies
Rangers look set for a “busy” January transfer window in pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Rangers could agree two “great signings” from Sunderland.
Rangers have enquired about midfielder Dan Neil, whilst they are also showing interest in winger Romaine Mundle.
Neil’s contract at Sunderland expires at the end of the season, with Bundesliga side FC Koln having held initial talks with the 24-year-old.
Rangers to ‘kick on’ with January signings
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes the moves would “make a lot of sense” for both clubs.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks transfer activity could also be linked to Rangers’ chance of winning the league title.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think both of them would be great signings again for Rangers if they can get them across the line. I think they’re exactly the type of player, committed players that they would want.
“I’ve watched them both, and yes, I think they’re good. Sunderland are a pretty hard team to get into these days, so these good players are just on the periphery of the squad, and they deserve to be getting playing time and I think it’s a good move.
“It could be loans, or I think it’ll be loans possibly for both, in which case that’d be good for Sunderland but very good for Rangers. There may be obligations to buy at some stage, but at least I think they’ll actually do very well and a move from Sunderland to Glasgow isn’t that far and I think it makes a lot of sense for all concerned.
“Now if they got that plus [Andreas] Skov Olsen and I think Rangers are looking at a very, very busy January window and will do very well out of it and I think that will give Rohl the support and backing he needs to kick on.
“It’s hard to say this now, but yes, Rangers are in a title challenge after all we’ve said this season. It’s absolutely bizarre that we have to say that, but yes they are and so he’s got a chance now to kick on and possibly win the title.”

Rangers keeping tabs on young star
Rangers are competing with Celtic for the signing of Silas Andersen from Swedish outfit BK Hacken.
The 21-year-old is a top prospect at BK Hacken, who would demand a decent fee to be tempted to sell the midfielder.
For Rangers, a new midfield signing may be required with Sheffield United leading the race for Joe Rothwell, who is out of favour under Danny Rohl.
