Rangers backed to complete Malik Tillman deal amid ‘£40m’ claim – pundit
Rangers could turn Malik Tillman’s loan move into a permanent deal if they qualify for the Champions League group stage.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 20-year-old’s form.
Tillman, 20, scored Rangers’ third in Tuesday’s (9 August) Champions League qualifying win over Union Saint-Gilloise, helping to overturn last week’s 2-0 loss.
The winger moved to Ibrox on loan from Bayern Munich this summer and the deal includes the option for Rangers to make the move permanent in the summer of 2023.
Football Scotland reported (14 July) that clubs who reach the Champions League group stage will earn a guaranteed £40million.
Kenny claims the Gers could spend some of that money on making Tillam’s move permanent if the gers beat PSV Eindhoven in their final qualifying games.
“It’s exactly that. That is the difference with qualifying for the Champions League,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It’s £40million. That is how important it is and how important these two games are against PSV. it is great for the club if they get to the group stage, whatever happens.
“But the financial side of that is very important for Rangers, for all clubs. It makes signings like that possible.
“It keeps them within touch distance of Celtic who, of course, already have that money in the bank.”

Tillman already has two senior appearances for the United States to his name despite representing Germany at various youth levels.
He has made seven senior appearances for Bayern Munich during the 2021-22 with four of them coming in the Bundesliga.
