Kieran Maguire: Rangers to dodge Uefa fine as ‘£25m-plus’ jackpot on the cards
The money Rangers will earn from the Champions League in 2022-23 should insulate them from any Financial Fair Play penalties.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers’ status under Uefa’s profit and sustainability rules.
European football’s governing body announced last Friday (2 September) that the Glasgow giants are one of 20 clubs on their FFP watchlist.

Under FFP’s terms, last term’s Europa League finalists are permitted to record losses of no more than £25million over a rolling three-year assessment period.
Several allowances have been made in light of the pandemic, however.
Maguire forecasts that Rangers will net £25m at the very least from their participation in Europe this season and will therefore avoid punishment by Uefa.
“Rangers will be relatively relaxed about being on the Uefa watchlist,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The qualification for the Champions League group stage this season generates at least £25m and probably a lot more. It’s now up to the club to deliver on the pitch.
“I think realistically, a 3rd place finish would be the most lucrative this season for them in terms of maximising revenues.
“That would also have the desired effect of putting to bed any concerns Uefa might have had about the club’s finances.”

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side lost 4-0 to Ajax in their Champions League Group A opener on Wednesday (7 September).
It was Rangers’ first outing in the competition for over a decade.
