Rangers ‘better’ than Celtic after what expert saw in person – ‘they have got the upper hand’

Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic have the “upper hand” on Rangers heading into Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash although they have been second best in recent meetings.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker claimed that a win on Sunday (30 April) is more important for the Gers than the league leaders.

The two sides will meet at Hampden again for the Scottish Cup semi-final just a few months after the Light Blues were beaten in the League Cup by their Glasgow rivals.

Both teams are heading into the fixture after disappointing league results, the Hoops were held to a 1-1 draw by Motherwell and the Gers were beaten 2-0 by third placed Aberdeen.

Michael Beale’s side have failed to win a meeting between the rivals this season and lost the most recent game at Parkhead despite a disappointing showing from normally flawless Celtic.

McAvennie insisted the Gers will need something spectacular to beat the Hoops, even on an off day.

The problem that Rangers have got is that in the last three games Celtic have not turned up and they have beat them,” he told Football Insider

They beat them in the cup and well so I think they have got the upper hand.

Celtic

I was at the last game and I have to say Rangers may have been a bit better but they were not good enough to punish Celtic.

It does not take Einstein to work out that Celtic have just had bad games. I think it is more important for Rangers than it is for Celtic at the weekend.
