Tottenham have finalised the £500,000 signing of midfielder Alfie Devine in a major blow to clubs including Rangers, Football Insider can reveal.
This site first broke the news on Friday morning that Devine, 15, was headed from Wigan Athletic to Spurs to undergo a medical.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the rising star put pen to paper on a contract at the weekend after passing a medical at Hotspur Way.
Spurs have agreed to pay cash-strapped Wigan £500,000 for one of the brightest young talents in England.
They have secured his signature after fending off strong interest from a number of clubs, including Glasgow giants Rangers and Celtic.
Wigan have been forced to cash in on Devine after being placed into administration earlier this month.
The club are fighting for their Championship survival on the final day of the season as they face a 12-point deduction.
Devine is among their prize assets given his growing prominence as a result of outstanding displays in age-group football.
The wonderkid, who joined Wigan after being released by Liverpool, starred for Wigan in their FA Youth Cup run this season where they beat Spurs 2-0 and has already played for the club’s Under-23s.
He has also been capped by England at Under-16 level and is regarded as a Premier League and international star of the future.
Tottenham are set to initially nurture Devine in their flourishing Under-23s set-up.
