Rangers board member ‘should be sacked’ after John Souttar latest – pundit

Frank McAvennie has insisted whoever signed John Souttar for Rangers “should be sacked”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said the players that the Gers are signing are “not right” for the club.

Souttar, 26, has made just one appearance for the Light Blues since his arrival from Hearts in the summer.

The defender missed 14 games for Hearts last season through injury and suffered a major set-back shortly after arriving at Ibrox and has been sidelined ever since.

As quoted by the Herald (5 January), Michael Beale is hopeful the Scotland international will return in “January or February”.

At last month’s AGM, the Ibrox Board were asked by a disgruntled fan if they felt sporting director Ross Wilson is the right person to be doing his job and questioned the signing of Souttar.

The centre-back’s contract runs until 2026.

McAvennie has slammed the recent signings and the members of the board who facilitated them.

They are buying players that are not right for the dressing room, not right for the football club,” he told Football Insider.

Rangers

Whereas Ange [Postecoglou] is buying players that everyone gets on well with. Whoever bought him should not be there, they should be sacked.

That is not a slant on the board, he is a good player but there is no point in having the best players in the world if they are not fit.
