Catalogue of screw-ups: Rangers fans must turn on board after promises broken
COMMENT
Three years ago when Dave King and the Three Bears rode to power at Ibrox on the back of a concerted campaign led by a fan group, there were countless promises made by the incoming directors that everything was going to change at Ibrox.
After years of half-truths, condescension and fans appearing to be nothing more than a cash cow to be milked, King and co promised transparency and co-operation between the board and fan base.
Fast forward three years and the only difference seems to be the names of the directors rather than the way the club is operated.
The search for Pedro Caixinha’s replacement has been nothing short of disastrous.
Almost 60 days to appoint the guy you had already appointed as interim manager as manager.
A sneering attitude and dismissive towards a Q&A sent on behalf of the members of fan group Club 1872 – Club 1872 also happen to be the second-largest shareholder in the club.
Then there was the half-baked answers from the press conference to confirm Murty’s appointment where the club’s aims were articulated by the club’s executive team as simply being about finishing in as high a position as possible this season in the league.
Over the summer, 44,000 fans poured cash into the club as they broke the club’s season ticket sales record despite the shambles of last season – and sadly, it only appears to have galvanised the board’s complete lack of concern about the shambles they are presiding over at Ibrox.
Most concerning of all is that, despite the catalogue of screw-ups by this board over the last three years, there’s nobody waiting in the wings to force them out and restore the Ibrox giants to their rightful place in Scottish football.
Until then, Rangers fans are going to have to find the voice that was used to such great effect by King and his cronies to help get rid of King and his cronies.
In other Rangers news, four new signings are on the cards in January after the appointment of Graeme Murty until the end of the season.
