Kieran Maguire shreds Rangers board after ‘really poor’ Club 1872 update

Rangers supporter groups deserve more respect from the board given their loyalty to the club throughout its recent troubled history.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the fallout from the Sydney Super Cup plan.

Rangers are due to play arch-rivals Celtic in a friendly in Australia in November, but the clash has sparked outrage among fans.

Rangers

Per the Daily Record last Thursday (17 March), Club 1872 claim they were ignored by Stewart Robertson when they wrote in to voice their concerns.

The Ibrox managing director has been compelled to scrap the friendly, which many fans believe disrespects the integrity of the Glasgow derby.

Maguire emphasised the need for give-and-take between supporters and the board.

“It’s important for all parties to have dialogue,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“That is especially the case because the Rangers fans were so supportive of the club when it went through a fallow period.

“When it was on its comeback through the lower leagues, they were there every week.

“That was absolutely critical in terms of the money it helped the club to generated. That should not be forgotten.

“You would hope the lack of response was an oversight or a delay rather completely ignoring Club 1872’s concerns, which would be really poor.”

Celtic

Rangers, who are in action against Dundee today (20 March), six points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

They host the Hoops after the international break on 3 April.
