Rangers board told by expert to agree John Lundstram deal – ‘It’s got to happen’
John Lundstram has become Philippe Clement’s “go-to guy” – and he “really deserves” a new Rangers contract
John Lundstram “really deserves” a new contract after his “outstanding” performances for Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton hailed the midfielder and claimed he has improved significantly since Philippe Clement’s arrival at Ibrox.
As revealed by Football Insider (7 February), the club are set to offer the 29-year-old a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in May.
Lundstram is one of the club’s top earners and is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides, but Clement himself expressed his desire for the Englishman to stay.
The defensive midfielder has been a mainstay this season having racked up 35 appearances in all competitions.
Hutton claimed Lundstram has been instrumental in Rangers’ new-found success under Clement and was eager to see him pen fresh terms.
“I’d be very happy if he signs a new deal,” he told Football Insider.
“It took a bit of time for fans to really see the best of him, but under Clement, he’s been outstanding.
“He’s been his go-to guy in the midfield.
“Lundstram is a real General in there – he organises people and starts attacks.
“He’s always in the right place at the right time and Clement has taken his game to the next level.

“He really deserves the new contract – it’s got to happen.
“As well as bringing in the young and hungry players, you need that experience.”
