Rangers can ‘count themselves lucky’ as controversial Ryan Jack footage re-analysed – expert
Alan Hutton has said Rangers can “count themselves lucky” Ryan Jack wasn’t sent off against St Johnstone on Saturday (28 January).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said the incident probably just a yellow card.
As shown on Sky Sports (28 January), the 30-year-old was booked for a late challenge on Adam Montgomery.
VAR official Nick Walsh instructed referee Willie Collum to use the pitchside monitor to have another look at the incident but the ref stuck with his onfield decision of a yellow card.
Just minutes before the challenge Jack was on the end of a wild tackle from the Saints’ Nicky Clark, who was ultimately sent off for the challenge, although the red card has been rescinded after an appeal.
The Light Blues went on to win the game 2-0 thanks to goals from James Tavernier and Glen Kamara.
When asked for his assessment of the challenge, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he is a little bit lucky to be totally honest.
“He has obviously got a little bit of the red mist. It was just after the challenge on him, he was chasing down Montgomery, he is late.

“I think the only reason he gets away with it is that it is more of a sliding tackle, his foot is on the floor and he catches him in the ankle.
“It can be dangerous. A yellow card, probably just. But Rangers can count themselves lucky that it was not a red I think.“
