Rangers in hunt to sign 33-goal forward who has torn up English league – Sky Sports

Rangers are in the hunt to sign on-fire Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott – but face a fight with Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday to land the 23-year-old after he tore up England’s League One this season, according to a report.

Sky Sports has claimed that the striker is attracting interest from the Ibrox giants after hitting the net 33 times in all competitions for the Posh in his debut campaign after joining from Luton Town

Peterborough manager Steve Evans has acknowledged it is unlikely that the striker will still be with the League One side next season and it looks like the striker could be one of Steven Gerrard’s first signings when he takes the reins next month.

Football Insider verdict

Marriott would be an interesting signing and, if the price is right, is one that the Gers should look at pushing forward one. 33 goals this season is a fantastic return after stepping up a level from Luton Town and moving to Ibrox would represent another leap in quality but at only 23, Marriott is young enough to quickly adapt and be a quality Scottish Premiership striker. The striker is under contract at London Road until 2021 so isn’t likely to come cheap but a move from League One to playing in the Europa League would surely be hugely tempting. The prospect of playing under Steven Gerrard is likely to also be a draw for the prolific striker. After starting his career at Ipswich and dropping down the leagues to get first-team football, a move to Ibrox would also be a huge reward for the 23-year-old’s hard work and willingness to take a chance to prove himself.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are firmly in the running to sign this Premier League enforcer who has put his £4.5million mansion up for sale ahead of summer move.
