Rangers chiefs must have something up their sleeve after Celtic twist update – pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested Rangers must have something “better” lined up with November’s controversial friendly clash with Celtic reportedly in turmoil.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Ibrox board “would not bat an eyelid” at pulling out of the Australia trip.
As reported by the Daily Record on Thursday (17 March), Rangers are considering withdrawing from November’s friendly tournament, which would include playing a Glasgow derby down under.

The report claims the Gers face a seven-figure penalty for pulling out but that Ibrox chiefs are confident they can avoid a financial hit due to a legal loophole.
Whelan suggested Rangers may have something else up their sleeve if they do cancel their plans.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It wouldn’t be a good look but I don’t think they’re going to bat an eyelid, to be quite honest with you.
“Peer pressure from fans regarding the game and the tournament, it’s their prerogative, it really is. If they feel they’ve got better options somewhere else to go and play other games, they’ll do that.
“If they do, they’re doing it for their own reasons. Probably not because of the fans but because they just decide that there’s a better option somewhere else.

“It’s sometimes not all about the money. You’ve got to weigh up a lot of things. I’m sure the fans will have had their say, I’m sure they’ll be listening to it as well.
“You’ve got to, because the fans are the club at the end of the day. They’ll come to the right decision, but they certainly won’t lose any sleep over if they do pull out, that’s for sure.”
