Report delivers update on Rangers striker plans, this is what Warburton wants

By Dominic Toner

Rangers chiefs are not willing to negotiate a new deal for Kenny Miller at this moment in time, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claim that the attacker’s future is hanging in the balance as the club are not currently preparing to offer a new contract.

It is understood that the chiefs will only sit down nearer the end of the campaign, despite the 37-year-old only having six months remaining on his contract.

The report details that Hibernian and Aberdeen are two of the clubs monitoring the attacker as he could sign a pre-contract agreement with another team now.

However, it is believed that Miller has his heart on extending his deal at Ibrox, while manager Mark Warburton also told directors he wants to keep the forward beyond this season.

Miller has been one of the standout performers for the Gers this season following their return to the top-flight of Scottish football.

The experienced striker has scored eight goals and supplied four assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.

He has operated everywhere across the frontline positions and is still a valuable part of the team despite his age.

Football Insider verdict:

Rangers should offer Miller at least a one-year contract to keep the veteran forward at the club as he has still been one of the best performers this season. The ex-Scotland international has proven he can still produce in the top league and the Gers would have been in trouble without him this campaign. He is obviously not a long-term prospect and might not have long left in the game, but his experience is invaluable to the younger players in the squad. Miller’s goal contribution has also been important and their squad is not currently strong enough. The Scottish giants will have to significantly improve their squad in the summer if they are to get anywhere near great rivals Celtic in the league, but getting rid of players like Miller would be a bad move right now.
